Meet Kateryna Mylokosta - UX&UI Designer
Bridging Passion and Profession: Kateryna's Journey as a UX&UI Designer at DynamicWeb
After finishing her Bachelor's degree, Kateryna realized she had a great opportunity to combine her passion with a career at DynamicWeb. She talks about her studies, responsibilities, and feelings about joining the developer department.
Working as a UX&UI designer
Tasks and responsibilities
"I am responsible for the user experience and user interface of DynamicWeb 10," Kateryna shares with excitement. "I am in charge of creating new features and concepts together with product managers. The research phase is a big part of it, but primarily I use my time on creating wireframes, mockups and testing the prototypes. I work closely with managers and developers to make sure everything comes together smoothly," Kateryna explains.
"I am also the go-to person for coming up with fresh features, tweaking the system, and designing the latest updates for our software. My main goal is to ensure that I can accommodate partner's and customer's needs and to make sure that they can effectively utilize our system," she says.
Personal and professional growth
From a hobby to a full-time position
We talked to Kateryna about her journey.
How did you figure out your passion?
"I have always been interested in graphic design, web design, and user experience," she says. "Playing around in Photoshop used to be a hobby since I was 12, and after a while, I realized it could be my career."
Even though she initially studied Web-Integrator and Multimedia Design, which involved coding and programming, Kateryna always held various student jobs as a graphic designer and UX/UI designer. Eventually, she decided to wrap up her education with a bachelor's in Digital Concept Development, a move that helped her turn her passion into a full-fledged career.
Her commitment to her chosen path was evident, even during a tough time. "I got the opportunity to join DynamicWeb while I was finishing my degree in 2021," she recalls, highlighting the fortunate timing during the uncertainties of the pandemic.
Being part of the community
Collaborating with colleagues
Working in a mostly male-dominated environment might seem challenging, but Kateryna consistently felt part of the community.
"When I joined DynamicWeb, the main help came from Jennifer, who also specialized in user experience," Kateryna reveals. "She helped me to get started, introduced the design tools, and gave an introduction to a lot of features in the system. Even now after two years, we are helping each other, giving feedback on our work, and supporting each other," Kateryna says with a smile.
"In general, we're like one big family," she adds. "We have a very friendly department, making it easier to seek help and advice. We often go out, plan fun events, or just have a beer and talk about everything after work."
Design decisions
Beauty sessions with the CTO
If you ask the CTO, Nicolai Høeg Pedersen, about Kateryna's contributions, he frequently refers to their collaborations as "beauty sessions" where they work together on improving the user interface of DynamicWeb 10.
Nicolai has great confidence in Kateryna's skills and trusts her decisions. "When it comes to design, Kateryna takes the lead," he says with a smile.
